ANIL DEANE

Dr. Anil Deane is Associate Research Professor at the Institute for Physical Science and Technology (IPST) and a member of the Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation (AMSC) graduate program at University of Maryland, College Park. He earned his Ph.D. in Astrophysics at the University of Colorado, Boulder. After post-doctoral research in applied mathematics at Brown and Princeton Universities, he joined the High Performance Computing and Communications Project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where he also served as Director of the NASA Summer School for High Performance Computational Earth and Space Sciences. Prior to joining University of Maryland, he was Senior Research Scientist at The School for Computational Sciences, George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. He has served as Program Manager, Applied Mathematics Research, & Program Manager, SciDAC Partnerships, Office of Scientific Computing Research, US Department of Energy. He has served as Board member of the Burgers Program for Fluid Dynamics. He is Director, Laboratory for Computation and Visualization (LCV), IPST and an affiliate member of University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).


His research interests are in High Performance Computing (HPC) - computational methods, fluid dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, and astrophysical plasmas; and in Data Science - Big Data analytics, machine learning, financial trading, computer vision, robotics, and cyber security. 


Concurrently, Dr. Deane is Technical Fellow at Northrop Grumman Corporation where he is Principal Investigator in Applied Research and Development projects in these areas.
